NLCC 1XI v North Middlesex on Sat 26 Apr 2008 at 1:30pm
NLCC Lost by 77 runs
Lovely sunny day.
Battle of the Norths
Midd won the toss, batted, and immediately fell apart to Maaz Haffeji (4-36) who knocked over the top three in quick succession. They are nothing if not resilient (for the full story click here).
Their overseas player batted very well, making 96 and carting the spinners everywhere.
Midd posted 221 all out in 43.1 with Kelvyn Smith (3-28) also starring in his first bowl this year.
Norths started well with Ridley (30) and Godfrey-Wood (35) forging a fine understanding at the top of the order. With Johns (35) joining Jack, Norths were well placed needing 110 off 18 overs with 8 wickets in hand, but a dramatic collapse saw them lose their last 8 wickets for just 34 runs.
There were plenty of positives for Norths. With Mills. Askew, AK, Freckleton, DeVillers and the Wakeford brothers returning competition for places is heating up and the league squad looks strong this year.
Not in that 2008 squad but certain to join it in the future is 15 year old Matt Rosson, who made his debut for the 1XI in this match. He fielded well, was enthusiastic and encouraging to his team mates, sent down 6 very tidy overs while the heat was on, and can bat a bit too.
Statistical footnote: NL used 12 players in this match though only 11 batted or fielded at anyone time. But the web site only allows us to show 11 players on the scorecard. So our "twelfth mans" stats for this game will not be shown which for the unfortunate player concerned can only be good news!
