Edmonton v NLCC 1XI on Sat 03 May 2008 at 1.30pm
NLCC Won by 7 wkts
After a week of heavy rain the Edmonton pitch and outfield held up very well and both teams got a useful work out on a sunny, breezy day.
NL bowled on winning the toss and exploited the wet conditions with excellent bowling up front. After 20 overs Edmonton were 29-4 against the impressive debutant Ahmed Khan (3-12) and Tom Wakeford (2-10). As the pitch dried the Edmonton skipper made an enterprising 70* to guide them towards respectability if not quite safety. Three wickets for Noutch in his best outing so far this year, and clever spells from Smith and Mills completed an impressive NL bowling performance.
Chris Ridley (92*) really turned on the style in NL's reply hitting 12 fours and 2 sixes against Edmonton's battery of medium pacers. Johns (22) briefly got in on the act and Noutch and Askew got some valuable time at the wicket.
That completes pre season with Norths in decent shape. Ridley, Mills, Godfrey-Wood and Johns all look in good form with the bat, while the bowling unit is as strong as any that NL have put out in recent years. Two genuine quicks, two strong accurate medium pacers and spinners of every description give plenty of hope for a successful season.
(The speed gun challenge looks spicy too)
