North London Cricket Club - Jack Petchey 2011

The nine Jack Petchey Award Winners for 2011 have been announced. All six win £200 for the club, money that will be spent to improve club facilities and equipment for younger players

* Eric Ryan-Inkson: Eric has made a good transition to adult cricket, turns out 4s and 5s as well as the U17s and is an improving and underrated bowler

* Millie Pope: aged 11 Millie has made big strides forward with batting, bowling and fielding over the last year. She has improved so much that she is making major contributions with bat and ball to the girls U15 side, let alone the U13 team. In the most recent U15 match, she batted virtually right through the North London innings against an attack full of county bowlers three years her senior. What singles her out as special more than talent, though, is commitment. Without fail, Millie always plays and trains hard, with real focus; that ethos is both the main reason for her excellence and a model for others. It is also the reason why she is a nominee for this Jack Petchey award.

* Ralph Pedersen: At just 19 Ralph has become established as the 2s wicket keeper and opening bat this season. Recent scores of 46 and 32 show he is growing in confidence. Ralph has also provided help to younger players at the club

*Jack Grylls: This 21 year old has matured to take on his first season as captain of the 4s. Has combined good leadership and individual performances with bat and ball including a match saving 36 not out with some self-effacing match reports

*Spencer Fowler: Another 21 year old and improving player, Spencer is almost now a veteran of the club he has featured for so long. Nevertheless it is great to see him still improving, playing regularly for the 3s and recently hit a match winning 86 not out

*Dan Rosson: This gifted 16 year old continues to perform well in both U17s and adult cricket including a recent score of 81 and some good bowling figures. Some great early season performances, expect him to be a mainstay of the club's academy side this year

Jess Black: Jess is a very deserving JP nominee.  Jess has been a key member of the girls' U15 side which has remained undefeated for two seasons, retaining their Middlesex title in style.  Quite apart from her cricketing performances (with both bat and ball), and willingness to train at any time, Jess has made a genuine all-round contribution to the development of the girls' section, whether helping with the coaching of younger players or the organisation of club events.  A first rate and really valued effort.

Lily Wells: Lily has had a remarkable 2011 cricket season.  She scored an impressive 200 runs, frequently when the pressure was on.  Lily's stand out role, however, was as captain of the U13 team which won the regional finals for London and the East, followed up by the national finals held at Ellesmere College in Shropshire.  Her performance was truly outstanding throughout, accepting responsibility and making key decisions while maintaining the absolute support and respect of her team mates.  Remarkably mature - and true leadership!

Georgia Hadley: Georgia is a very worthy JP nominee.  Georgia has been an important member of the girls' squad for several years and a very positive influence on the team spirit - which itself has been a key aspect of this incredibly successful (and integrated) team.  Georgia's nomination follows on from a match winning performance against Finchley enabling the girls to secure the U13 county title.  A terrific catch to dismiss Finchley's top scorer was followed by a ferocious display of strokeplay - just when NLCC were coming under pressure - to see the team home.
