Dear member,
Your Committee has been working hard to try and get the 'top field' above and behind the Clubhouse back into use as a cricket and sports field, in conjunction with Highgate Wood School, Haringey Council and other local stakeholders.
NLCC used this field for many years, until vandals set fire to the artificial pitch we had installed.
The financial investment necessary to get the field back into use requires a fence around the facility to protect the newly created sports fields. Without the fence we can’t protect the football, cricket and athletic facilities we are developing.
In addition, safeguarding of young people, who we want to encourage to partake in sports requires a fence to avoid uncontrolled access to the School facility by members of the public. Past experience has also shown that dog walkers have created problems though not picking up dog mess, meaning the sports grounds become unusable without clearing in advance. Furthermore, dogs are allowed to roam off leads and that can’t be allowed with organised young people’s sport.
We should also make the point that we are not proposing to fence in the whole of the area and we are allowing for free access across part of the field and for approximately a third of the field to be available as a wild meadow area, thus allowing for all members of the community to benefit from the field.
A proposal to turn the top field into a Town Green has been made by other commercial parties interested in not allowing the top field project to happen. Here is a link to the Town Green proposal Notice of an application for the registration of Crouch End Playing Fields (Upper Field) as a Town or Village Green | Haringey Council
Please support your Club Committee by sending in an objection to this Town Green proposal to Haringey Planning Dept either by email to planning.policy@haringey.gov.uk or by post before the 6th February. A template wording is attached for your use, which has the Haringey Plannnig dept postal address on it.
