North London - a club on the move

24 May 2014

If you have been down to the club recently you will have noticed a few changes going on. Well, it’s just the start, and to keep going we need your continued support.

From funds raised by the club members who did a charity cycle ride a while ago, we have been able to install new windows in the bar. Now you can enjoy a coffee, a chardonnay or a pint and watch the cricket – without having to stand up to see over the window frame or peer through prison grilles. It is a massive improvement and thanks go to the saddle-sore cyclists.

As a result of the contributions by a number of club members, we have painted the bar and tarted it up with some great photos, prints and memorabilia in classy frames. It is a more pleasant place to relax after a game and a much more attractive venue for hire-outs. There are more images in the Photo Galleries.

We are about to get French doors put in the kitchen, leading onto the verandah, opening up that whole area and it’s planned to put some coffee tables in there with a view of the pitch.

In June, three artificial pitches will be installed - two on our main ground and one at Ferme Park - the batting ends of the nets and all infill surrounds will be replaced and the net cage will be extended and completely re-netted. This has been made possible by grants awarded by The Mayor of London’s Sports Facilities Fund, The Lord’s Taverners, The Middlesex Cricket Trust and Tottenham Grammar School Foundation, along with funds being raised by club members.

And then… we need a new bowling machine, a new, larger groundsman’s shed, and one day, a whole new pavilion.

That’s why we need to keep the fundraising effort going: we’ve introduced a players’ sponsorship scheme; we’d like the whole club, juniors and seniors, to get involved in the Funday/six-a-side tournament on Sunday 22nd June; the junior section frequently have barbeques and other events; and there will be more of the same throughout the year.

Please support the fundraising efforts to help make North London a more pleasant experience for all, offer better training and match facilities for players, and ultimately get better results on the pitch… help us to be a club on the move – upwards.
