North London Cricket Club - Colts Year Review 2010

Colts Year Review 2010

Girls Squad– Martin Issitt

The girls squad has achieved a notable double, winning the Middlesex Girls' Leagues at both U13 and U15 level, competing against clubs right across Middlesex - from Barnet to Teddington... This caps another successful year for the girls, with 16 having represented the County across the age groups. BP presented the League Trophies to MI. Will look to have U11, U13 & U15 teams playing next year.

U7 & U8 boys – Ian Matejczyk & Alistair Hart

U7s – 3 good players in small squad. U8s had 23 in squad and need more coaching help next season. Played 4, won 3 and lost 1. 4 good players to nominate for Middx Colts trials.

U9 – Mark Sewards

Lots of coaches available. Played 10, won 4, lost 5, 1 tie. 9 good players and 6 reasonable. 25 in squad. Looks good for next season.

U10 & 11B – Neil Perry

Busy season with loads of friendlies and Middx League fixtures. League campaign went to final game, but lost to Hampstead and finished 2nd. U10 lost more than won, but have a core of good players. John Blount Cup was very good game v Hornsey and the 40 overs a side gave the young players a taste of the longer game. 21 in squad.

U11A – Barry Greally

Report to follow

U13B – Robert Tripp

Struggled in 2nd division with weak squad and better players playing in A squad

U13A – Robert Tripp

Good performances and held their own in 1st Division, but didn’t get rewards for efforts. Batting is main problem.

U15B – Dave DeKoningh

Good season. Squad of 20. Won 5, lost 4, 1 abandoned. Captain (Chris Holt) did well and Kirsten was pick of the bowlers. Many players played for Academy side. Matt did well as keeper.

U15A – Nick Battcock

13 year 10 players and 5 year 9. Joe B and Freddie I look like good prospects. Won Central Area cup, beating N Middx in final, but then lost at Sunbury in the National Cup, when they should have won. Key development point is that all players playing adult cricket, with representatives in teams from the 1st to the 5th XI. Should compete well in the U17 League next season if the squad can stay together.

U17 – Bob Rosson

Undefeated winners of the U17 Central League and then beat Potters Bar to get to finals day. Lost in semi final of Area cup on last ball. Great bunch of players who are all now playing adult cricket. PM and AH gave a good team warm up ahead of the League championship semi-final v Ealing, where we unfortunately again lost, but this time on the last ball, with a much better performance than last season.

Shepherd’s Cot Development League –Stephen Gardiner.

3 strong clubs in league plus Crouch End. Not a successful season in terms of results but good in terms of getting new younger players involved  - Kirsten Rossouw & Chris Holt particularly performing well. Ronnie H was a great help to the players. Budgens have given shirt sponsorship money.

5. Membership Officer’s report – John Beckett

  • Junior membership for 2010 totalled 227 – down from 230 in 2009

U7 -     15

U8 -     23

U9 -     25

U10 -   21

U11 -   24

U12 -   17

U13 -   13

U14 -   20   (5 Associate)

U15 -   18   (12 Associate)

U16 -      2   (1 Associate)

U17 -   14   (14 Associate)

Girls -  35

  • Honorary membership (parents of juniors) totalled 88 – up from 35 in 2009 following a big push from Bob Pedersen and John Beckett to promote this among the parents and also from Becky Issitt among friends and ex-members of the club. This represents extra income of £1760 for the club for effectively no outlay.
  • Associate Members - there were 32 Associate members among the junior ranks who paid £85.00 Associate fee and were therefore eligible to be selected for adult XI’s.
  • Most groups have stayed around the recommended 20 mark in size, although some managers with enough coaching support have taken on extra members from waiting lists. The U7 group did not fill up this year and there were lower numbers at U12 and U13 due to non-returners and lack of suitable players to recruit. The U16 group had just 2 members but fortunately the U17s were strong in both ability and relative numbers. The Girls group continued to flourish under Martin and Becky Issitt.
  • Current (2010/11) U10, U11, U12 groups have waiting lists for places – approximately 5 or 6 at each age group. Current official club policy is to take the players from waiting lists in order as places become available but trials may be held at individual managers’ discretion. Membership selection and criteria are currently under review.
  • It is important that managers take registers prior to training sessions and inform either Bob Pedersen or John Beckett if unregistered players are turning up. There were a few cases of this happening this season and it is not only unfair to those on the waiting lists but means the club misses out on subs. It also breaches our Clubmark status if players are not registered. Conversely, if registered members are consistently not coming to training sessions, this should also be notified so that the place may be offered to someone on the waiting list if applicable.
  • BP gave vote of thanks to JB for carrying out the Membership Officer role

  • BP confirmed that all was in hand to send off the entries and would attend the fixtures strike on the 16th Nov.

8. Improvements/ suggestions for next season

  • Proposal from RH  - Student Membership Category

Debate ensued. Conclusions were that although flexibility in the Club Constitution already existed to cover reductions for students, this was not widely known.  Younger players were unlikely to approach the Committee and retention of younger players is a key concern for the Club.

*AP* RH to send proposal to IM before 30th November and find seconder so that the proposal can be proposed by RH at the Club AGM in January

  • RT proposals for batting improvements

RT gave presentation on two proposals for improving batting at the Club. These had been circulated to the coaches & managers prior to the meeting and both were received positively.

*AP* RT to implement ideas for the 2011 season

  • PM proposal for NLCC High Performance Squad

PM gave presentation on how he would like to enhance training and produce more high quality young players for the senior section and to also produce County and International standard players. A video of key England performers of the past preceded a walk through the NLCC High Performance Squad paper. General opinion was that this approach was to be welcomed.

  • BP thanked all coaches & managers for their efforts in 2010
